"Music is a fundamental and powerful component of an arts education. It helps to enrich student's understanding of the human experience across cultural lines and historical eras. An education in music strengthens creativity and helps students develop aesthetic potential. Furthermore, music education increases students appreciation of music and continues to a balanced program of career education."
From the Northern Valley school's Music Curriculum Guide
The goal of the General Music program in our schools is to have the students involved in the following aspects:
1. Creating and Performing
2. Perceiving and analyzing
3. Understanding cultural and historical contexts
Here are some of the musical activities at our schools that apply to these goals:
The L.LE School chorus is offered to third and fourth grade students. Chorus meets on Tuesdays and Fridays every week during recess time. The first scheduled performance is at the Winter Concert.
A chorus form is sent home during the first week of school for participation.
At the first part of the year, all students at County Road School and Luther Lee Emerson School will take part of the Halloween sing along which will be held at the end of October. In addition, students will prepare a special program for the Winter concerts in both schools.
Recorder and instrument Club is offered to Fourth grade students. The club meets on Thursdays at 12:00. Students who are interested in playing challenging music on their recorders and other classroom instruments can sign up for this club.
Starting in January:
First grade students will practice for a show entitled: "The Share Bears".
Second grade students will begin practicing for the Second grade play entitled: "An Aesop Adventures".
Third grade students will start learning to play the recorders.
The third and fourth grades chorus will begin practicing for the Spring Concert.
Fourth grade students will audition for the talent show
