Mrs. Carboneri's Class
Grade 3
Welcome to 3C!
Here you can find information about our class, spelling words, and so much more!
Our goals for this year include being independent learners, and being
responsible third grade students.
HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned each night Monday to Thursday. In third grade the students have 30 minutes of written homework and 20 minutes of reading.
Homework is copied by the students each day into their assignment pads.
Students that have 100% homework for the month will earn a homework pass. Missed or incomplete homework assignments will be recorded in the homework book. Student pages of the homework book will be sent home at the end of each month to be signed and
reviewed by a parent.
Homework Passes are good for one night's homework, but excludes tests, quizzes, and projects, and are good for one night of spelling homework (one box of tic tac toe.) Students do not need to make up the work covered by the pass. Use of the Homework Pass is subject to parent's approval.
READING RECORDS
Students should read for approximately 20 minutes each night, Monday to Thursday. The students must record what they read during that time, noting the start and end pages, and have a parent sign each night.
Assessments
Tests need to be signed by a parent and returned to school. This is to keep parents informed of student progress. Tests will be returned to students to keep at the end of each marking period.
****During the first marking period students may retake a test or quiz and the higher grade will be recorded. For marking periods 2 the average of the original test and the retest will be recorded, while marking period 3 will offer retests in all areas except multiplication, and the final marking period will not offer retests in any subjects. This is to prepare students for the testing policies of fourth grade.
SNACK
Each day we will be having a working snack at approximately 10:00 am. Please send your child to school with a small, healthy snack, such as fruit, veggies or lowfat yogurt.
REPORT CARDS
Report cards are issued to third grades four times a year. Please note in Language Arts Reading and Language Arts Writing the grading system is still O, S, N. All other subjects are letter grades. Also, each subject has sub categories, which are graded as +, -, or /. A minus means the student needs to continue to improve in the area, and that full mastery has not yet been achieved, while a plus indicates full mastery of the skill.
TEACHER
Mrs. Carboneri has been teaching for eleven years, making this her ninth year here at Haworth Public School. She graduated from Villanova University and has her Masters in Literacy from Long Island University. She lives in Paramus with her husband, daughter Ava, and son Luca. Teaching third grade is her favorite thing to do!
