Our schedule for specials is as follows:

Monday - Technology and Phys.Ed.

Tuesday - Music

Wednesday - Italian

Thursday - Library and Phys.Ed.  [Please be sure library books are returned by Thursday so your child can choose a new book]

Friday - Art and Enrichment [3rd and 4th marking periods]

Snack - Please pack a healthy snack -  no chips, cake, cookies, soda or sugary drinks.  We have snack between 10:00AM and 10:30 AM

Lunch - 12:40 PM

Birthdays - We love to celebrate birthdays here at school!  Celebrations usually happen at snack time. You can send in a simple healthy snack or something more festive - your choice.  You can also come in and read your child's favorite book to  the class.  Please send me a note and we'll arrange a good time.  Or you can send the book in and I'll read it to the class.

******There are 18 students in the class.  We do have a peanut - tree nut/strawberry allergy in the class.  Please take that into consideration when planning birthday treats, snacks and lunches.

Homework-  The children have math or language arts homework Monday through Thursday nights.  It is usually a reinforcement of a concept taught in those areas.   You will probably want to read the directions to your child or have him read them to you.  Ask him to say back to you what he has to do.  He should then be able to complete the work independently.  You can go over it with him when it is completed.  If there are any problems with the homework  [cooperation or not understanding the concept] please let me know. He should put his homework in his homework folder and put the folder in his back pack.  Now he's ready for another day of school!

HOME FUN!!! - Each night the children bring home a Book Club folder with a book they have selected from the Book Club box tucked inside.  Book Club choices, particularly in the beginning of the year, usually support phonetic elements we are focusing on.  Your child will read the book to you, you will sign it off on the title list inside the folder and the child will return that folder  and the book to school in the morning along with his homework folder.  As part of the morning unpacking your child will choose a new HOME FUN!!! book from the Book club box and repeat the process.  Reading is never referred to as 'work' in room 5!

Notes To School:  Please send me a note if you will be picking your child up early or if someone other than the designated person will be picking him up [for example - your child is going home with another parent for a play date].  When your child has been absent a note is also helpful.  Of course, you can also contact me with a note at any time for any other reason.

School Supplies -   The children will bring home their pencil cases each Friday.  Please check it and make sure that there are at least four or five sharpened pencils in it as well as several erasers.  Then be sure the pencil case is returned to school on Monday.  They will need additional supplies, such as crayons and glue, during the school year.
