Mission

Most children look forward to their weekly visit to the art room. Their art room curriculum is experiential, focusing on process, rather than product. Since critical thinking is an essential part of the creative process, adequate time is given for students to successfully meet the curriculum requirements. SUCCESS is a key element of my art program, and all students must feel positive about themselves in the art environment. In order to do this, it is important to realize that we all need varying amounts of time to think through creative solutions, allowing time to solve problems and revise projects if neccessary. Creative problem solving, while essential to the artistic process, is also transferable to other areas of the curriculum, hence, students will develop and/ or hone higher order thinking skills. If children feel successful, their SELF ESTEEM will also increase, and it is my mission to provide a classroom climate where all students believe in their ability to achieve, and be successful.

Drawing is a strong foundation of the program. It is wonderful to see colorful projects, with a variety of mediums, but, from First Grade on,  children are given various drawing exercises to "train the brain" to draw what their eyes see. In addition, we discuss layout and composition, and compare and contrast a variety of master works in our Art History studies.
