******Please do not e mail me with messages for your children and where they should be going after school.  There are many afternoons when I do not read my e mails until after dismissal because I am with the children for the afternoon.  I do not want any child to be going to the wrong place after school because of this.  Please call the school and ask them to contact me with the message your child needs about getting home.   Thank you.

Social Studies
We are now setting up the 13 original colonies in the New World.  This will lead us into the Revolutionary War and the set up of the government of the U.S.A.  We have many sources of information on the war.  We are using the books called If You Lived at the Time of the American Revolution, George Vs. George, and many hand outs that I have prepared.
Last week we spent the period learning about Veteran's Day.

Writing
We begin the year with Narrative Writing.  We start with sentence building activities and build our way up to great paragraphs.  The writing folders are kept in class and all steps in the writing process are done in the room.  Journal writing on Mon. and DOL writing exercises are also a part of the writing program.
Reading
We have have finished reading  Because of Winn Dixie.  There will be vocabulary activities, reading in class, comprehension activities.  There are many activities to complete at the end of the book.  the end of the book test is Fri. 11/20.

Grammar
We have grammar 5 days/week.  We are still working with pronouns.  Pronoun test this week on Thurs.  They will get all pronoun activities we have done in class to use to study.

Spelling
Spelling is done in a week with 5 school days.  On Mon. there is the pre test of the words in the unit.  We also do the first page (of4) in the unit.  For homework the misspelled words are written 3x each.  On Tues. and Wed. night a page is given for homework.  On Thursday the proofwriting page is completed in class with me.  The homework then is to study for the test.  On Fri. the final test is given and graded.  For those students who earned a 100% on the Mon. pre test, there is no Fri. test for them.  They are responsible however for completing the pages in the unit.  The units are correlated with the grammar topics. This week the lesson begins on p. 108 Homophones.

Our homework assignments are posted daily on the assignment board.  The students are given time to copy the homework daily and to empty their mailboxes which is where we place any communications from school.
