Step 2 Research Teams


Now you are in your research team!  All of you are animal scientists who will be studying one important feature of your animal. Each of you must read the different roles below and decide who will research each one.  Remember that you must work together and cooperate to help save your ocean animal!


Choose A Role:   

                         Physical Characteristics:  This scientist will find information about what the animal looks like.  What special features does it have?  For example, a seal has blubber that helps keep it warm in cold temperatures.
                             
                         Habitat:  This scientist will describe the animal's habitat.  Does it always live in the water, or does it sometimes live on land?  Does is live near the bottom of the ocean or in coral reefs?

                         Family:  This scientist will find information about the animal's family.  How many babies does it have?  Where are the babies born?  How long do the babies stay with their family?  How long does the animal live Ð what is its lifespan?  

                         Predators:  This scientist will find information about the animal's predators.  Does it have predators?  Who are its predators?  How does it protect itself from predators?  Does the animal have special tricks to help it survive?  For example, does it camouflage?
 
                         Diet: This scientist will find out what the animal eats.  What does it eat?  How does it get its food?  
                        
                        Endangered: This scientist will find out why the animal is endangered.  What is causing it to become endangered?  How long has the animal been on the endangered list? Also, tell why we should help to protect this animal.
