MAKE A BOOK REPORT SANDWICH!

sandwich.png

For our next book report, you will need a fiction book that you have not read before,
and that is appropriate to your grade level.
You may borrow the book from the school library, the town library, the classroom library,
or from your own library at home.

Please bring in your book for approval by December 11, 2009.

We will be making a book report sandwich to report on our books, and to show our mastery of descriptive writing. Use any kind of materials or several different kinds if you wish.

However, it can only be as big as a regular sandwich so it may fit into a clear plastic sandwich bag.

The “sandwiches” will be graded on content, writing skills, use of description (remember to use descriptive, sensory, and space order words), and creativity.

Only one paragraph is needed to describe each story element.

Every student will be responsible for a one-minute oral presentation in which they will describe how they made their sandwich, as well as a brief description of the plot.

How to make a book report sandwich:

1.  On the top slice of bread, write the title and the author.

2. On the tomato slice, write descriptively about the main character.

3. On the mayonnaise,  describe the book’s setting.

4. On the lettuce, write a brief, but descriptive summary of the main character’s conflict(problem).

5.  On the cheese (American, Swiss,Provolone, etc.), descriptively share how the conflict was solved.

6. On the meat slice (roast beef, ham, turkey, etc.), describe the plot.

7.  On the bottom piece of bread, draw a favorite scene from the story.

8.  Create an index card with a few points that you would like to make for your oral presentation.

9.  Bring your sandwich in a sandwich bag, labeled with your name and class, by Friday,January 15, 2009.

The sandwiches will be hung on a bulletin board entitled: “We’re Hungry for Good Books!” The bulletin board will serve as a menu for students who are ravenous for a good read.  All you have to do is grab a sandwich to learn whether a particular book might satisfy your appetite!

A rubric is an assessment tool used to measure students' work. It is a scoring guide that seeks to evaluate a student's performance based on the sum of a full range of criteria rather than a single numerical score. A rubric is a working guide for students and teachers, usually handed out before the assignment begins in order to get students to think about the criteria on which their work will be judged.

As always, do your best, but have a blast with this project.
I know we will all enjoy eating, um, I mean, reading them.
