The 7th grade will study the following units this year (2008 - 2009.)
1. European Exploration
2. Colonial America
3. Birth of a Nation (The American Revolution)
4. Government /Civics
5. Choosing to Make a Better World
Classroom Guidelines
1. We are a community of learners. Please be kind and respect one another, our space, abilities and differences.
2. I value my time with you so please be on time. Be in your seat with your binder on your desk when the bell rings.
3. Be prepared. Bring your binder, journal, homework and writing utensils to class everyday. Making a consistent effort to come to class prepared will improve your grade.
4. Always try to do your personal best and you will be successful in Social Studies this year!
Classroom Procedures
5. When you enter the classroom please take your assigned seat. Put your binder and writing tools on your desk and everything else under your desk. Take out last night’s assignment. Read the instructions on the board and begin the “jumpstart” written on the board.
6. Please ask permission to leave the classroom and follow the sign out procedure.
Grading Policy
The grade you earn each marking period will be an average of the following:
Classwork: you will be expected to complete classroom work and participate in group learning activities and discussions
Tests: on chapters and units
Content Writing: will be an average of class essays and your American History Journal assignments
Quizzes: section and vocabulary quizzes
Projects: at least one per marking period
Homework: you will be excused from one missing assignment anything else counts against your grade.
Homework is due on the assigned date. Assignments turned in late receive half credit. If you have a special situation please bring in a note from home and speak to me.
You will be required to have the following items for the 2008 - 2009 school year in Social Studies.
1 binder (1” or 1.5” size will be adequate.) You may choose soft or hard cover. If you prefer you may use a larger binder to hold several subjects. One section must be designated for Social Studies.
1 folder with horizontal pockets (to keep loose papers and daily homework assignment)
loose leaf paper in your binder for class notes
4 dividers for your binder
pens and pencils
colored pencils (a basic set with primary colors will be fine) for mapping and other projects
1 black sharpie (fine point) for outlining maps and projects
1 small glue stick
1 composition notebook (for your American History Journal)
