Grade 6
Very Van Gogh
Impressionistic Landscapes
What better way is there to draw a landscape?
The impressionistic style of Vincent Van Gogh makes a
successful artist out of anyone! By layering oil pastel colors,
we were able to create the illusion of an oil painting.
They even look like they should be up in a museum!
You "Mosaic" Me Crazy
Sixth grade students have been looking at the
intricately designed mosaics created during the Byzantine
period. Most mosaics were created with glass or ceramic
tiles, making them very heavy. Our mosaics are a bit on
the lighter side since they were created with paper tiles
and pieces. The effect is still incredible!
Chinese Dragons
Sixth graders had such a good time designing their
own legendary Chinese Dragon. Since we couldn't
find anyone that has recently seen a real dragon, we
each took our own ideas of what a dragon would look
like by examining ancient examples of Chinese drawings
and using our imagination! Watercolor paint and
permanent markers helped us create these amazing
creatures!
Oaxacan Tin Reliefs
It was so much fun revisiting the Oaxacan culture in Mexico after making clay carvings last year. The year we tackled the task of creating Tin Ornaments. It helped being familiar with the carving tools, and when it was time to work, we all looked like pros!
Twirling Tessellations
Inspired by the artist M. C. Escher, we took the geometry
of a tessellation to the limit! Just take a look at our
characters twirling in our radial tessellations!
