Grade 4

Autumn Art
Inspired by French artist Paul Cezanne

4th graders had a great time looking at an
Autumn still life arrangement and drawing from
observation.  It was even more fun to choose
from colored pencils or oil pastels to
layer colors with!  We reviewed our primary,
secondary and complimentary colors to create
more realistic representations!

Tricky Tessellations
Dutch Artist M.C. Escher and the
Connection to Mathematics

By studying the art of M.C. Escher, and the
mathematics behind the "Tessellation",
fourth grade students were able
to create some amazing patterns!
Each tessellation was
created by making the perimeter of the
square larger without adding anything
new!  Then each piece fits together
within itself like an amazing puzzle.

The Color of Emotion

Using Elmer's glue to draw a self portrait is a bit
strange, but it fit perfectly when we let the
glue dry and then filled in the
space between with emotional colors.
We used colored chalk pastels in order to blend our
colors to create the most amazing results!

Comics
Inspired by American Artist Roy Lichtenstein

Art class just got a lot more fun since we
are studying the comics!
In the Pop Art style, we have enlarged
colored newspaper comics just like the
American artist Roy Lichtenstein has done.
We created a larger version
of the original comic by using some tricks
for drawing proportion, and we also colored
some areas with benday dots like the ones that
are seen when colors are printed
from a machine and visually mixed with your eye!
