Book Reports
Use this page to access all information about book reports:  Due dates will be assigned in class with the report.

4th Grade Book Reports
Students are required to complete five book report assignments in Mr. Kucheruck’s 4th grade Reading class.~ The reading and completion of these reports/projects are to be completed independently at home.~ Below are the requirements for each report.
A 2-paragraph written report to include:
1st paragraph:~ brief summary of the book
2nd paragraph:~ student's opinion (whether or not they'd recommend the book to others with supporting details)
Five or more sentences per paragraph
1 Project - see monthly choices and descriptions below
Since all of Mr. Kucheruck’s fourth graders will be reading the same genre for each report, the use of the public library is encouraged.

Mystery/Detective Book

2 paragraph written report plus project.  Choose 1 of the following projects:
Project 1 - On a piece of tag board, draw and color a scene from your book.~ Cut it into puzzle pieces and put it into a zip-lock bag.~ Do not make the pieces too small.
Project 2 - Make at least 3 paper bag puppets for the main characters in the book.~ Write a brief biographical sketch about each, OR choose a short scene from the book to act out.
Project 3 - Make an advertisement poster or brochure to "sell" your book to the class.~ Use interesting describing words.~ Be sure to use a lot of enthusiasm when sharing your ad.
Project 4 - Write a new ending to the book.~ If you could go back to the point in the book before the mystery was solved and rewrite the ending, what would happen?~ Write the page number of your starting point and briefly describe what has just occurred in the book before the new ending.


4th Grade Book Reports

Any chapter book of your choice

2 paragraph written report plus project.  Choose 1 of the following projects:
Project 1 - Think of a good gift to make (not buy) for the main character in your book.~ Wrap the present and tell why you chose that gift.~ (Example:~ Ruby slippers for Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz to help her find her way home.)
Project 2 - Make a diorama of a scene from your book.
Project 3 - Make a collage that shows all you can about your book.~ Cut your pictures out of newspapers and magazines.

Biography

2 paragraph written report plus project.  Choose 1 of the following projects:
Project 1 - Dress up as the subject of the book and tell us about your life.~ Be sure to include where and when you were born, why you were important, and other interesting facts.
Project 2 - Make a time line showing the dates of important events in your subject's life.
Project 3 - Make a storyboard on a large sheet of paper.~ Fold it into rectangles and make a series of drawings that tell about your subject's life.~ Be sure to include dates.

Non-Fiction~How-To/Hobby/Sports/Recreation

2 paragraph written report plus project.  Choose 1 of the following projects:
Project 1 - Perform a demonstration for the class.~ Include the items and steps needed.
Project 2 - Make a scrapbook, guidebook or rule book.
Project 3 - Make a collage or sports banner of things and people associated with your sport.~ Include pictures or drawings of equipment, uniforms, or famous athletes in this sport.~ Magazines and newspapers are excellent sources of information and pictures.
Project 4 - Imagine you are a sportscaster on the evening news.~ Prepare a 3-minute sports cast, including the play-by-play, of a real or fictional game.
