I am one of the Literacy and Math Plus teachers at Hillside School, currently working with first, second and third grade readers, as well as third grade math students.
The Literacy and Math Plus Program is one of academic support in the areas of literacy and math development. Participation in the program is based on a combination of eligibility criteria which may include:
*classroom teacher recommendation
*classroom assessments
*additional screenings
The intensive instruction provided is based on each child's academic needs. Our goal is to strengthen students' existing skills and knowledge in order for them to achieve greater success in the subject areas of literacy development (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and mathematics.
The content of the curricula taught is aligned with both the Northern Valley Curriculum Guides and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Classroom teachers and Plus Program teachers work together to implement this program in order to maximize student learning.
