Kindergarten
By the end of Kindergarten, students will:
Introduce themselves by name.
Use appropriate greetings: hello, goodbye.
C ount from 0-10.
Identy and name colors: red, blue, yellow, green white, and black.
Follow comands: stop, look, listen, repeat, stand up, sit down, and raise your hand.
Sing songs representative of the target culture.
Learn about holidays of the target cultures.
First Grade
In addition to reviewing all K topics, by the end of First Grade, students will:
Use appropriate greetings and responses: How are you? Fine, poorly, tired, so so.
Use phrases of courtesy: Please, thank you, you are welcome, and excuse me.
Count from 11-30.
Identify and name colors: Orange, purple, brown, pink.
Identify and name shapes: Circle, square, triangle, and rectangle.
Follow commands: Open, close and take out.
Name family members: Mom, dad, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, and baby.
Name body parts, head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth face shoulder, legs, feet, stomach and hands.
Sing additional songs representative of the targert culture.
Learn about additional cultural celebrations of the target cultures.
Second Grade
In addition to reviewing all K-1 topics, by the end of Second Grade, students will:
Express personal needs: I am hungry, thristy, sick, bathroom needs.
Count from 31-50.
Recite the alphabet.
Use first person singular of the verbs: "to have" and "to be"
Identify and name classroom objects: pencil, paper, notebook, crayon, ruler, blackboard, window, door, computer, and backpack.
Use interrogative words: "What?" and "Who?"
Describe themselves using adjectives: nationality, tall/short, light haired/dark haired, red haired/blond haired, nice, friendly/unpleasant, unfriendly, fun/boring.
Name community buildings: school, library, post office, police station, bank and stores.
Identify continents and oceans.
Recognize lifestyle similarities and differences between the United States and target cultures.
Discuss cultural celebrations.
Third Grade
In addition to review all k-2 topics, by the end of Third Grade, students will:
Count from 51-100.
Use interrogative phrases: "How many?"
Express likes/dislikes.
Name days of the week and months of the year.
Name animals: Dog, cat, birds, fish, and farm animals.
Identify weather conditions and seasons.
Name geographical forms: River, lakes, north, south, east, west, mountains, capital, city, country and world.
Express personal ailments: "I have a headache, stomachache, sore throat, backache, and toothache"
Name Items of clothing: Socks, shirts, blouse, pants, jeans, skirts, tee shirts, dress, shoes, sneakers, hat, coat, bathing suit.
Use first, second, third person singular of the verb "to wear"
Discuss cultural celebrations.
Fourth Grade
In addition to reviewing all k -3 topics, by the end of Fourth Grade, students will:
Tell time on the hour and half-hour.
Use interrogative phrases "Where?" "When?" and "What time"
Describe mealtimes: 3 main meals, snack, courses, types of food, time of day, family setting.
Name the rooms of the house.
Expore cultural differences: Indigenous people, tales and legends, holidays body language, and currency.
Fifth Grade
In addition to reviewing all K-4 topics, by the end of Fifth Grade, students will:
Create simple phrases and respond to questions using the verb "to be".
Describe people, places, and things using adjectives of nationality and physical/personality traits.
Interact with appropriate responses in limited social setting and basic situations.
Engage in guided conversations.
Organize thought into coherent oral speech.
Compare and contrast American schools and schools in the target culture.
Name and discuss subject studied in school.
Tell time and recognize military time.
Explore the geograhy and culture of a nation where the target language is spoken.
