Mrs. Reeves
Grade 4

Goals for fourth grade:

To create a positive, safe learning environment in which students learn to respect each other and reach their maximum potential as life-long learners.

News:
Our class trip was a big success.  I witnessed a lot of fun and learning combined.  On a personal note, I would like to thank all the parents and students for helping to make this a very successful year.  I enjoyed working with your children very much.

We are wrapping up our many units of study.  In Math we are ending the year studying decimals, the metric system, and probability.  We have really strengthened our number sense this school year.

In Science we are exploring static electricity and magnetism.  Students even had the opportunity to show their own appreciation for the scientific method through their interactive science experiment presentations.

In Social Studies we modeled how are government system works at the state level.  It was amazing to see the teamwork and logic that went into developing new class laws.  Hopefully students will leave 4th grade with a greater appreciation for the rich history of New Jersey.

In Reading we finished our third class novel, There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, and we have begun our fourth class novel.  Students are creating cooperative friendship books to showcase all that they learned about friendship.  We are ending the year reading an old-fashioned fantasy story called, The Whipping Boy as well as exploring some stories in our reading anthology.

Mrs. Reeves' Background Information:

Shortly after graduating from SUNY Binghamton, I began my teaching career in Washington Heights, New York.  I taught 2nd and 3rd grade before moving across the bridge to Fort Lee to teach 4th grade.  I worked in Fort Lee while finishing my master's degree in elementary education with a Reading specialization.  I currently hold a certificate as a Reading Specialist.  I took some time off from teaching to raise two of my three children (Lauren - 7th grade and Jack - 5th grade).  My third child, Jessica, is an active 2 year old that keeps all of my family on our toes.
I returned to teaching in 2003 and found a home teaching my favorite grade (4th) in Northvale in 2004.  This is my fifth year teaching for the Northvale school system and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this school year.  I grew up in Norwood, attended local schools in the Northern Valley, and now reside in Harrington Park.  I have a vested interest in maintaining excellence in education in the Northern Valley.  I am looking forward to working with you and your children this school year.
