We use a balanced literacy approach to learning. Balanced literacy respects and addresses the needs of all learners, view teachers asinformed decision makers, is flexible, and research based. A balanced literacy approach to instruction provides all students with dailyopportunities to engage in various reading and writing activities tohelp them communicate more effectively. In a balanced literacyframework, students participate in read alouds, shared reading, guidedreading, independent reading, and systematic word study. In addition,they engage in modeled writing, shared writing, guided writing,writer's workshop, and independent writing.
