September Newsletter
Dear Parent(s),
The second graders in our class have been doing beautifully. They have all adjusted to school again and are hard at work.
Each month, I will be sending a newsletter home to update you on concepts that weare learning in class as well as projects that we will be working on. I will also include other important information about our class. I look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night on October 8th.
Please remind your child to read each night and to practice his or her math facts.Your child will benefit greatly from this practice.
I look forward to meeting you very soon!
Sincerely,
Miss Trujillo
Reading
Over the past few weeks, we have been enjoying the theme Silly Stories. We have done plenty of giggling as we have read stories called Dragon Gets By, Cows Can’t Fly, and Julius. So far, we have read about a dragon who shops, and a cool Alaskan pig. Next week, we will read about farm animals that play house. The children will be sure to laugh at some of the behaviors that these animals exhibit.
Theme Related Activities to Do Together:
Create a story with your child, aloud or on paper. Think of an animal that comes for a visit and stays to cause some mischief. Imagine and discuss what kind of mischief the animal might get into in the kitchen, the bathroom, or the other rooms of the house.
Enjoy!
Math
In Math, we have been working on Unit 1. The class has been using numbers from1-100. We have also been exploring number patterns. The class has been makingand using tables and graphs as well. We are all very excited about our smartboard and have been enjoying using it for many math related activities. Later on in the unit we will be learning different addition and subtraction strategies that will be useful throughout the year.
Writer’s Workshop
We are currently working on our first piece of writing, which is a personal narrative. Each child is writing and developing a story about an important moment in his or her life. They are learning how to write an interesting lead sentence and how to develop a beginning, middle, and an end.
Class Website
I am constantly updating our classroom website with important information that may be useful for you and/or your child. Please check back frequently for any updates.
Fall Weather
The fall weather is approaching quickly! This is my favorite time of the year. It is great to be able to go outside and feel the crisp air. Please make sure that you are sending your child with a jacket. The students are still going outside during recess as long as the weather permits.
