Making a Word Document into a link on your Web Page

1.  Create a page in Microsoft Word

2.  When you have completed your Word document save it to an appropriate place. This can be a folder in your documents folder or on the desktop.  Give you document a simple descriptive name.  For example, Homework9.18, (no spaces and 9.18 for September 18).

3.  Now you must save it as a web page, go to File Save as a Web Page.  At the next window make sure the name is the same as how you saved the word document.  Save this new web page in the same place as the other document.

4.  Now drag the Web Page document to the Home Page Folder in your FirstClass email window.

To get this document to open in your web page you have to make a link.

There are two ways of doing this.

Copy and Paste an existing link

1.  Copy an already existing link and paste it where you want the new link. Using your mouse delete the existing name and put in a new one. Double click on the arrow in the red oval in front of the word.

2. A window will appear put the exact name of your document in the Target URL field and the Link title field.

3. Close the window of your Homework web page.  You will now be able to view your work on the Internet.

Create a new link

1.  Type a name or instruction for your link.

2.  Click on the symbol of arrow in the red oval, make a link.

3.   A window will appear put the exact name of your document in the Target URL field and the Link title field.

3. Close the window of your Homework web page.  You will now be able to view your work on the Internet.

There are two more ways to get Worksheets on your web page.  This could save us a lot of time and paper.

You can also just drag a word document onto your web page in FirstClass.  The document will appear on your web page.  Anyone looking at your web page will be able to download this document and open it with Microsoft Word.  They cannot do this if they do not have Word.

You can also drag the document to your web site as a PDF file.  To make your Word document into a PDF open the Word document and go to Print.  At the bottom of the Print window it says Save as PDF, click this button, note where you are saving and change suffix to pdf.  You can now drag this document to your web page and anyone can print it at home.

I recommend that everyone create a folder for all you web items and place it is a place that is easy to find, your desktop or your documents folder.
